Grade 3

 

Third graders continue to create, perform, and respond to a variety of music.

 

Students sing songs with larger ranges and begin simple work in two parts. They may add an ostinato to a well known melody, or they might sing that melody in a round. 

 

Third graders will read and write more complex melodies and rhythms. They focus on being able to read pitches and rhythms simultaneously. Students may begin to read absolute pitches (A, B, C, D, E, F, G) from the music staff in preparation for instrumental study in fourth grade.
